Our Dojo
We have been the leading martial arts dojo on Miami Beach, teaching traditional Okinawan style Karate for almost 40 years, founded by hanshi Glenn Mehlman (formerly Beach Martial Arts). Our style is Shuri-ryu and Goju-ryu, two of the oldest fighting systems in Okinawa, Japan, the birthplace of karate. We also teach Japanese Ju Jutsu and traditional Okinawan weapons (kobudo).
We recently moved to our new home on 6th street in South Beach, where we continue to offer the finest environment for learning a martial art. See our class schedule. We look forward to seeing you soon.

“Finally, A Martial Arts dojo That makes you feel Welcome. Where everyone is friendly and You don’t feel intimidated.”
Sasha Walker. Student
Have you ever wanted to do something new like joining a martial art school, then stop at the door and walk away. You felt intimidated. I always wanted to learn karate but I never found a school that felt warm and friendly… until I walked into South Beach Karate. From the teachers to the students, I was always made to feel welcome and part of the family. I thought learning a martial art would be stressful but they make it fun and relaxed. In these photos you see me go from yellow belt to orange belt – I only wish I’d started here as a kid!

“I love the South Beach Karate dojo and it’s become a part of my everyday life since I signed up my two daughters. Learning a martial art as a family is so much fun – thank you!”
“I gained my black belt last year which would have been unimaginable without my teacher hanshi Glenn Mehlman. Karate practice has changed my life and given me so many new and dear friends. “
“Beside thanking my teachers hanshi Glenn and sensei Jon, for teaching me karate, I need to thank my father for his support. I feel so special being a part of this dojo.”
