Your First Class is on Us
That’s correct. You are welcome to visit our school (dojo) and try a free class without any obligation. Talk to the instructor (sensei) and talk to the students. If you are a parent and bringing your boy or daughter, then speak to other parents if they are available. We want to make sure that you know we are the right martial art school for you.
Why Karate?
The word karate is a combination of two Japanese characters: kara 空, meaning empty, and te 手, meaning hand; thus, karate 空手 means “empty hand.” In other words we bring no weapons. We use our body and mind when facing an adversary. Karate develops our mind, creating sharper, faster thinking and improved focus. We develop self-control and discipline that instills values like honor, humility and respect. In a physical capacity, karate increases our strength, helps us to develop balance, coordination and flexibility, increases our endurance and importantly, teaches us how to relax. As a result our speed and power is increased. Striking is more accurate and controlled, which lessens injury to ourselves and our opponent. Overall our confidence is increased and so is our spirit – that vital measure of the power of a human being.
Courage
If courage is the ability to do something that frightens us – then walking into a martial arts dojo is an act of courage! We remember our first time! Karate gives us the mental and physical tools to face negative situations that involve danger or pain. When we learn to control our fear, we relax and move quicker with more purpose. Courage is not something you are born with, but through karate training you can find it.
Self Control
Self control is a culmination of hard work and discipline which lead to sucess and happiness. A lack of self control is revealed through depression, aggression, poor social behavior and lack of purpose. Karate gives you motivation, using small steps and rewarding you at each level with a belt, and finally with a black belt. This achievement is recognized not just in the dojo, but outside with success in your everyday life.
Self Defense
Learning self defense is the need to learn the skills to protect yourself, starting with the bully at school or on the street, and then later in life to protect your family. Karate can teach you how to win a fight, but karate training also gives you a heightened sense of awareness to the threat of danger. What signs to look for and how to react before a bad situation develops. As important as winning, mastering karate can give you the courage to not fight. To de-escalate a dangerous situation, before it turns deadly.
